Cara is lovely!

Lovely thoughts: I love the fact that I can create something that can make someone feel so lovely on a such a special day. And I love that I get to meet truly genuine and beautiful people just like Cara.

Cara and Chad tied the knot at Grayhawk in Scottsdale and it was my pleasure to help Cara and her bridesmaids get ready to perfection! It was so much fun to spend the morning with them, they all looked so gorgeous!

The Look: Have you ever met someone and you just liked them instantly? That's exactly how I felt about Cara. I knew after meeting her it was my mission to create a look that made her feel like the best possible version of herself. We foucsed on her eyes and glowing skin. As I looked at the wedding pictures for the first time, you can see Cara's smile. She looked so happy and absolutely gorgeous!

My favorite picture of Cara is the one with her mom. After having the opportunity to spend some time with Connie, I quickly realized where Cara gets all her beauty and grace!

Cara - I wish you and Chad a lifetime of love and blessing!

Special thanks to Diana Elizabeth for capturing all of these beautiful images and for thinking of me as one of her recommended makeup artists! I am so glad that we finally snapped a picture together! xoxo

Learning is beautiful.

Lovely Thoughts: I want to thank everyone who came to my master class at ULTA on Saturday with Studio Gear. We had such a great time! It was a morning full of learning and laughs! Everytime I host a class, I always walk away feeling even more inspired! There were so many great questions asked and ideas shared. We spent our morning talking by about Beauty Basics: Makeup 101. Starting with the importance of skincare, basic brushes to buy and why, understanding primers and concealers and how to use them to your benefit, and last we talked about foundation and how to get correctly color matched.

There were many things that stood out to me about the day. But here are my favorite!

Skincare: When we talked about skincare and I shared with the group skincare basics they need to know when selecting a regimen. I told the group that the #1 skin concern with women is AGING. I showed these pictures of Audrey Hepburn. I think it's such a powerfull reminder that we all grow old. Even Audrey. It's a matter of how gracefully we age and how well we take care of our skin. It's up to us to learn what works best for our skin type. Remember, makeup will only look as good as the skin under it -- no matter how old you are.

Foundation: Did you know that according to a Estee Lauder Foundation study that 94% of women are wearing the wrong foundation color? We've all heard Oprah talking about how many women wearing the wrong bra size. But what about the wrong foundation? I mean, it's on our face! So please be sure to get correctly color matched.

The group was surprised when they each shared how they selected their last foundation. Only one of them actually got color striped. The rest just used their hand as their guide. Something to think about!

Lovelies: After the master class, Studio Gear held a huge makeup event. I stayed after the class to answering questions and to offering beauty tips and techniques. Out of the people I met, the two that stood out the most were this lovely gal and her mother. Her main concern was the fact that she was a busy mom and didn't have time (or energy) to commit to a full makeup routine. Here are some of my tips for Mommie Makeup.

- No Matter What, Don't Forget About Your Skin: It's easy to neglect your skin when you barely have any time for yourself. But make it a point to  care for your skin no matter what. Meaning, wash your face at night, use hydrating moisturizer, and don't forget SPF. You will thank yourself later, I promise.

- Keep Makeup Simple: Opt for easy to use foundations like BB or CC creams. Foundations that are going to even out skintone and can be applied quick and easy. Plus these new generation of foundations are error proof.

- Don't Skip the Concealer: Find a concealers that also acts as a highlighter. This will help to soften dark circles and create the illusion of a rested eye.

- Multitaking Products for a Mulittasking Mommie: Get more out of your products. Try using a blush that can also be used as a lip color. Or a eyeshadow stick that can also serve as a eyeliner. Every minutes counts!

- Don't Underestimate the Power of Color: Every now and then mix-it-up by adding in a bright lip. There are no rules that say mommies can't wear red lipstick! Just look how good it looks on her!

The other question I was asked a few times was how to wear makeup for more mature skin. Here are a few tips to keep in mind for Ageless Beauty.

- Hydrated Skin is Glowing Skin: It all starts with skin. You want to make sure that your skin is well hydrated. When skin is hydrated, it glows and it looks more youthful.

- Keep Eyeshadow Matte: Eyeshadows with a matte finish look polished. Sometimes eyeshadow with a lot of shimmer can settle into fine lines and wrinkles on eye lids.

- Don't Forget Mascara: I'm a huge fan of mascara at any age! So focus on lashes to make eyes appear more open-

- Gloss Works: Many women think that lipgloss is just meant for younger women. But I completely disagree. I think a perfect gloss can allow lips to look hydrated and not so dry. Just make sure that there is not too much shimmer and that it's a true color. It's also the perfect pair over your favorite lipstick.

- Use a Hydrating Concealer: Most women are concerned about concealer settling in to their fine lines and wrinkles around the eye area. And it can happen if you are not using the right concealer. Try to find a concealer that acts as a treatment and concealer. Try Benefit Fake Up Concealer

Peepers are pretty!

Lovely thoughts: "How do I make my eyes look bigger?" Okay, I probably get this question once a week! The answer is super simple. Line your lower water line and inner corners with either white or nude eyeliner and avoid black eyeliner on your inner rims. Here's the way it works and how I like to expalin it:

FANCY PANTS When I say "white pants", what do you think of? Maybe you think of Labor Day, maybe you think of Summer time? Or maybe you have a vision of how you think you look in white pants. The thought may cross your mind that they will make you look bigger, right? Regardless of your shape and size, and if you love them or hate them, the truth is white tends to make all things look bigger. This is the same thought process about white liner. When you want your eyes to look bigger and brighter, you wear white or nude liner. Wear nude liner for a more subtle and natural look (but it does the same trick in a less obvious way).

Now, when I say "black pants", what do you think of? Maybe you think of work, maybe you think of Lululemon pants? Or maybe you think they'll make you look slimmer or smaller? Same rule applies with black eyeliner. When you want to define your eyes or create a smoldering look, you use black.

Get it? I use this example all the time and feel it creates a good visual. Because we all know what it's like to wear white and black pants!

Now here are a few more secrets along with using white/nude eyeliner to help make your eyes look bigger.

1.  Shade your crease slightly above the brow bone. This helps create the illusion of a lifted eye or a more open eye. Try it.

2. Shade under your lower lash line with the same crease shadow. This helps to balance they eye and make them appear more rested.

3. Frame your face by defining brows. Okay, eyebrows are so important. They can change the look of your entire face. When your face has a frame (defined eyebrows) the focus now becomes the picture (your eyes).

4. Line your lower water line with white or nude liner. Use white liner for a wide- open-eye and nude liner for a more subtle eye (depending on your skintone, eye color, and hair color, a nude liner may look more natural and less chalky). Don't forget to line the inner corners of your eye to help make eyes appear wider. Click here to see my favorite white liner fromn Studio Gear Cosmetics. And click here to see my absolute favorite nude liner called Inline/Outline, also from Studio Gear. This pencil can be used to liner lower waterline to make eyes pop, be used as a concealer for small areas, use to outline lips to make them appear fuller, and not to mention it's a great highlighter!

5. Use lots and lots of mascara. I love mascara. If you read my blog you may know that I'm on a mission to find the perfect one. Mascara is key to completing any eye look. When you put on your mascara concentrate on wiggle the wand at the base of the center lashes and fan them out. Majorly helps in opening the eye. For a big impact add some faux lashes!

I hope my little cheat sheet helps next time you want all eyes (no pun intended) on your peepers!

p.s. - I do love white pants regardless!

Flirty is pretty!

Beautiful: I was so excited to read the email that my sweet friend Leslie sent me. It's been a while since we've connected. Leslie and I worked together at Bare Escentuals years ago and I always considered her one of my favorite people there. When she told me that she had accepted a position to work with the Mally Beauty team, I was so excited for her! Do you know who Mally Roncal is? She is a living gorgeous legend in the beauty world. She has been a makeup artist for over 15 years and has worked with some of the biggest celebrities in the world (Hello Beyonce)! Her makeup style is amazing and so are her products! Not to mention she seems like the kind of person you would love to have drinks with because her personality is so contagious! So when Leslie wanted to send me some products to try for my blog, I was super excited!

Gorgeous: Okay, I can't tell you how much I love Mally's line. Every single product is good. I like it all  because it's so easy and pretty. It's basically goof proof. It will literally take you 5 minutes to get gorgeous! Swear.

Makeup: For a fresh and flirty makeup look try this tutorial using Mally Beauty products. Here is my cheat sheet on the products Leslie sent me. Click here to see all of the products below and meet Mally.

1. Eye Shadow in Saddle Shimmer - super easy to apply this retractable cream eyeshadow. It goes on smooth and lasts long. Great for a gal on the go to throw in your makeup bag.

2. Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Liner in Black Velvet - This is one of my favorite Mally products. I like how smooth the liner goes on and how long it lasts. So important when finding a perfect liner.

3. Volumizing Mascara - Everyone who reads this blog knows how much I love mascara. I am on the quest to find the perfect one. If you are looking for a good one to try I would recommend this one. Doesn't  flake and adds a ton of volume.

4. Lip gloss in Starburst - Buy these. So pretty. No words can describe how much I am a fan of these both personally and for our clients. I just ordered a 6-piece collection from QVC at a steal of a price.

5. Evercolor Poreless Face Defender - Mally has created a product that makes so much sense when fininshing up and setting your look. This is her version of a translucent powder. It's basically a sheer product that helps reduce the appearance of pores, helps to set foundation without looking ashy -- such a inventive product! Must try.

Do something lovely: It's so great to connect with old friends. Social media has made it so easy for us. I always believe when you think about someone it's because they are thinking of you too! Do something lovely and take some time to reconnect with people you may have lost touch with them. Why not?

Special thanks to the lovely Leslie Caldwell-Fetty for all of my Mally Beauty goodies and for being my Kevin Bacon link to Beyonce! But more importantly for all the amazing memories of my time at BE. Everytime I visit SF I can't help but think of what a fun time it was with an amazing group of women! xoxo

p.s. - Dear Mally, love you! If you ever need another person to help with makeup for the Tracy Reese NYFW show, I'm all yours! :)
