Sunshine is beautiful.

Beautiful: I have been lucky in my career. I've had more dream jobs than one person should be allowed (Hello, L'Oreal!). I'm not saying they have been easy. Actually, the opposite is true. Each one was challenging in different ways and at different times of my life. I traveled a lot and worked really hard to get where I was. Now, I have come full circle, back to what I love most about the beauty industry... helping women understand makeup. I hope everytime you visit this blog you see something or read something that inspires you!

Gorgeous: It was a gorgeous Winter morning on my first day of work at philosophy (filed under DREAM JOBS). It was here that I learned all about skincare. It changed my life. I learned that your makeup will only look as good as the skin that's under it. So simple, right? From that day forward, I made a promise to myself that I would take good care of my skin. My first step was to wear SPF every single day (something that I did, but not every single day). Six years later, I have kept that promise to myself and I encourage anyone who'll listen to do the same!

Makeup: Not all SPFs are created equal! Using SPF is the easiest (and cheapest) way to slow the signs of aging and to protect your skin for harmful rays! Here is a crash course in SPF (see above). I hope this guide helps!

1. philosophy hope in a jar spf 25...$40. Details: If you are looking for a amazing moisturizer and SPF... look no further. This is it! It's perfect! (

2. La Vanila Healthy Lip Screen SPF 30...$16. Can't get enough of this brand or this lip balm!

Do something lovely: Everyone's definition of "dream job" is different. It's never too late to switch gears or find what you love to do-- ever! I'm an example that you can actually live what you love!

Special thanks to my favorite boss (not going to name any names) who gave me the two best pieces of career advice: 1. If you don't want your boss's job, you're in the wrong job. 2. People don't work for a company, people work for each other. I always think about these little pearls and my time at philosophy where I met a group of amazing and talented women!

Bronze is beautiful.

Beauty Advice: Luxe or Less? Summer is upon us! That time of year when we put our best skin forward and let it glow. It's one of my favoite times of year! There is nothing I love more than a heathy bronze glow. What I don't love is sun damage and premature aging the sun can cause (especially here in Phoenix). So, it's best we lather on the SPF and add our faux bronze look with a powder bronzer instead of really baking in the sun. Bronzers have really evolved! There is a perfect one for every skintone in every price range!

Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powders:

  1. Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder...$51
  2. Terracotta Bronzing Powder Long Lasting...$51
  3. Terracotta 4 Seasons Tailor-Made Bronzing Powder...$75
  • Lovelist: Amazing application - goes on so smooth, right amount of color for the face (not too much shimmer, color is buildable), comes in multiple colors for all different skintones (great for the fairest fair to deepest deep skintones).
  • Wishlist: They break so easily! When I carry one in my handbag, makeup kit, or tote, I find they chip and break super easy! So be careful!

Physicians Formula

  1. Powder Palette Multi-Colored Face Powder...$13.95
  2. Bronzer Booster Glow-busting Bronze Veil...$15.95
  3. Glow-busting Season-to-Season Bronzer...$14.95
  • Lovelist: Love the price (right now ULTA has all Physicians Formula Buy 1 Get 1 50% off)! Bronzers come with a brush, Hypoallergenic, Fragrance-free & Oil-free
  • Wishlist: Less glimmer, longer wear, and more skintone color options.

Beauty Advice: Go Guerlain! It's my personal favorite. The perfect bronzer to take you from Summer into Fall (because it's so buildable) and the product lasts forever! I think if you give one of them a try you will fall in love with them too!

Go LUXE if...

  • you have a hard time finding a bronzer that is not too light or dark for your skintone, they have so many options.
  • like more of a matte bronzer (my personal favorite) with subtle shimmer and a tad bit of gold.
  • are concerned about sulfates. phthalates, and triclosan (it has none of these ingredients).
  • love that it's long-lasting and also moisturizes.

Go LESS if...

  • you love shimmer - many of the bronzers have a illuminating glow.
  • are on a budget, there are some really amazing deals on Physicians Formula!
  • like the fact that it is oil-free, hypoallergenic, and dermatologist tested.

Retro is gorgeous.

Beautiful:  I am so excited to see the Baz Luhrmann The Great Gatsby movie! What is it about retro-inspired books and movies that we love so much? For me, it's the thought of living during another time, which always seems to be more glamorous. That's the beauty about books and movies, no matter how carried away we get in the wonder of that time, we quickly realize that certain themes are in every era...

Gorgeous: Makeup can tell us so much about women's history. In the 1920s, it was all about the gorgeous flapper! Women looking to overturn Victorian rule, challenging social norms, and wearing what was considered "heavy" makeup. It is one of my favorite eras for makeup because the look is so dramatic and distinctive!

Makeup: The 1920s-inspired makeup is all about: red bee stung lips, dark heavily outlined eyes, flawless skin, flush stained cheeks, and chiseled brows. Here are some beauty ideas to help you create The Great Gatsby look.

1. Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Creme Lipstick in Icon. Details: This is my new favorite red! Give it a try, you will love it! Ultra creamy and glides on like a dream!

2. Art Deco Compact by Stratton. Details: Stratton has been making powder compacts since 1923. This is a vintage inspired compact that is a must-have. You could also find true vintage compacts sold on Ebay by Stratton. Perfect for a compact collection (like me)!

3. Tarte Airbrush Finish Brush. Details: This is one of the hardest working brushes in my makeup kit! It gives a perfect foundation finish and is super soft!

4. Dior Airflash Spray Foundation. Details: This foundation is fabulous. It may take a few times to get comfortable applying it, but it's worth it! Tip: Spray foundation directly onto a foundation brush and then apply, this will help control application.

5. BCBG Stone Floral Necklace. Details: I just ordered this necklace. This little stunner can also be worn as a headband! So cute!

6. Benefit Benetint in Rose. Details: One of the very best tinted cheek and lip stains. A perfect flush look by a cult classic!

7. F. Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby. Details: An American classic. If you have never read it, nows the time!

8. Hourglass Longwear Lipliner. Details: Before applying your lipstick, be sure to accentuate your cupid's bow with a lip liner. This will help extend the wear of your lipstick and give you a vintage-inspired look (think bee stung).

9. Givency Eyebrow Pencil. Details: Use this brow pencil to create a chiseled brow look. It glides on easy for perfect brows.

10. Tiffany & Co. Savoy Clutch. Details: Love this satin clutch in black! Tiffany & Co. recently launched a Jazz Age Glamour collection that is inspired by The Great Gatsby.

Do something lovely: The Great Gatsby movie is officially out (Yay, Leo!)! Wouldn't it be lovely to grab a Champagne Gimlet then head over to see the new movie this weekend? Cheers!

Special thanks to my sister Toni who has sipped the Baz Luhurmann Kool-aid with me since Romeo and Juliet, circa 1996. Who says Jay-Z and Bono can't be on the soundtrack for a 1920s themed movie? That's the beauty of Baz!

Mothers are beautiful.

Beautiful: Motherhood is beautiful. Being a mom has taught me about patience, pure love, selflessness, understanding, and joy more than any other experience in my life. I never knew how much love my heart could hold until the day I met and held my babies.

Gorgeous: I can clearly remember how I felt after I delivered both my boys -- happy but not gorgeous! The only thing that made me feel like myself was holding them and putting on lipgloss. I can always count on makeup to add some color to my world!

Makeup:  I want to share some Mother's Day must-have gifts on my list. It's time to celebrate the first person who said you were beautiful the day you were born... your mom!

  1. Tarte Aqualillies Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eye and Cheek Palette...$38. Details: This limited-edition palette was inspired by Aqualillies (glamorous synchronized swimming group). Great palette for active moms!
  2. Aerin Candle in Sky Flower...$58. Details: I really think any mom would love Aerin Lauder's signature candle scent. It is one of my personal favorites. Notes include: jasmine, magnolia, and Burbon vanilla.
  3. Dior Cherie Bow Palette...$80. Details: This limited-edition palette is great for any glam mom. It has an eye shadow trio, black liner, nude shimmer gloss, and applicators!
  4. Trish McEvoy 2013 Voyager Set...$85. Details: This is fantastic for the mom that loves to travel. This has everything you need to take on a carry-on!
  5. bareMinerals Jonathan Adler Original Foundation...$60. Details: This is a great gift for any mom that loves design (especially Jonathan Adler). The limited-edition kit comes with a acrylic case, Handi Buki brush, and mineral foundation!

Do something lovely: This Mother's Day, take a moment to really hug (or call)  your lovely mom and thank her for everything. I never really understood just how much my mom did until I became a mom!

Special thanks to my mom and all moms that continue to inspire me. I appreciate and love you beyond words. Happy Mother's Day!
